Saturday March 24th 2012 SOSSA PELAGIC TRIP, WOLLONGONG, NSW, AUSTRALIA.
Report List prepared by: Graham Barwell.
Here's a list of what we saw on 24 March. As ever, I use the 2008 Christidis & Boles taxonomy but give subspecies names where species have been split by others. The numbers are conservative. "5+" (and similar) means "minimum 5 at any one time but likely a higher number over the day."
We went out to 34° 38' 25" S; 151° 09' 26" E, 33.5 km SE of the harbour in shelf edge waters, where we stopped 11:00-11:50 hrs, then turned back in stopping again at 34° 34' 08" S; 151° 05' 25" E, 23.5 km SE of the harbour at 12:50 hrs, where we caught a Buller's Alb., then finally at 34° 32' 18" S; 151° 03' 51" E, 19.4 km SE of the harbour, 13:14-13:56 hrs, where we caught Flesh-footed Shearwaters, 1 x female Yellow-nosed Albatross with an unusual wing moult ( failed breeder?), and 1 x 3 yo immature impavida.
